Our Mission

Blackbird Gardens is a project of social and agricultural change. The integrated culinary garden and fine catering company are located near Petoskey, Michigan. For over 20 years, we have been committed to providing the community with organic vegetables, fruits, flowers, and herbs. Foods produced are used for catering events, sold at local farmers markets and restaurants, and distributed to a “working share” CSA. Our mission is to build a strong local food network through direct consumer involvement while providing some of this region’s best food and service.

Check out our updated catering menu. The new menu showcases a sampling of dishes we've always made--but it is by no means an exhaustive list. Requests are more than welcome!

[internship opportunity]

Every summer, Blackbird Gardens has an internship for people interested in sustainable market gardening. This is a 3-month position from late spring to early fall. The internship focuses on intensive, small-scale production, processing, and marketing of produce. Foods produced are used in the catering work, sold at local farmers markets and restaurants, and shared with a small “working share” CSA. Soil building techniques include compost production, cover crops, and mineral supplementation.
